I have 2 lovely daughters (5 and 9 years old) but they are not very experimental when it comes to food. If I try something new they will usually try it once and then say after 1 bite that they don't like it. But okay, there is already noticeable improvement but we are not there yet. Something that is probably recognizable in many families.
When I recently listened to the podcast De Kookboekenclub , a podcast where a cookbook is presented every week in the presence of the author, I discovered 'Smaakspoken', by @daanfaber.
This is a book for children in which they are introduced to the seven tastes by means of an exciting story because as the author says: children have more taste buds than adults but they have no framework. They do not know what to taste.
The story is about a girl who is not allowed to help in the kitchen by her father, a chef in his restaurant. But then she meets the seven taste ghosts who take her into their world. There the girl learns that a little bit of spice is okay because it gives spice to food and life. Because by seeing that there are very spicy peppers but also very soft ones, she gets a framework through which she realizes that it is all okay.
And that's how the whole book is structured. Educational for my children as well as for myself. I will definitely talk about it with them in the coming period and taste it
On the back cover, Jochem Myjer quotes that this book made his children eat, something he never managed to do.
Super fun book that everyone should definitely read to their children
