It had been on my to do list for a long time, but the unknown made me keep postponing it, until a friend told me he had done it a few times before. And so, on the first nice, warm weekend of this year, we drove to the Oesterdam in Tholen, with the goal of picking some oysters and looking for vongole and wrinkles.

If you like shellfish, this is an absolute must! The concept is simple; you walk on a gigantic beach (which was completely under water a few hours before) and you decide to stick your hand in the sand somewhere in search of a closed shell.

And where you would otherwise see this at the market or in a pasta vongole, you suddenly dig shells out of the ground. Fresh vongole.

After a few hours you will have found enough to make a big portion. So if you take a small bbq with you, you can make a pot of vongole on the spot

Since it was my first time I learned from the professional people around me and I like to note these tips for the next time I go

What to bring:

-Bucket with lid

- Mini hoe or rake for digging up to 10 cm deep

-A colander to rinse the shells

-patience

-sunscreen and a cap

And of course a mini BBQ

On the map I am attaching here you can see where we found vongole and oysters.

O = oysters / V = vongole

And that brings us to oysters: in the right place you can easily find them. They wash up from the sea, so to speak. Forget what you buy in the store: these wild oysters are big and rough and plump and juicy. We found one that was no less than 22 cm. (The shell content was smaller, fortunately)

Since I was the only one who eats oysters we took it easy and only took what would definitely be eaten. A few raw on the spot and on the bbq in the evening

Both the vongole and the oysters went on the ofyr afterwards and what a feast that was!

I will definitely go back soon because it doesn't get any purer than this and I can recommend it to everyone!
