The sun is going to shine again and for most people that is the signal to get that BBQ out and dust it off
So, in addition to that BBQ, you also need to collect some other tools, because you don't want to discover during that first session that you don't have something.
What are the tools that you definitely need to get the most out of your BBQ, whether you have a kettle, a kamado or something else?
Please note: this is not a basic list but it is a bit more extensive and you will see that you can do much more right away.
- A barbecue.
This is a no brainer: no bbq, no party. What you choose for BBQ is of course your own choice
- Charcoal
Or something else, but without fuel there is nothing to grill. Be sure to read my article about charcoal, and you won't get lost there
- Wokkels or looftlighter
Of course you have to light that charcoal and then I prefer to use a looft lighter, but of course wokkels will do! 2 or 3 wokkels between your charcoal, or - even better - under your starter and you are off. Especially no liquid lighting oil, and other chemical products
- A bbq tong. You can't do without it. Make sure you have a good one, it will save you a lot of hassle.
- Good BBQ gloves.
It's very simple: you're working with fire and heat and you don't want your skin to get stuck on anything, so always wear gloves when you want to move/change something
- Meat thermometer
To start, the brand doesn't matter. I've used a cheap meter from Weber for years. But super handy and necessary to have in the house
- Sharp and good knife.
It may seem obvious, but I notice that many families do not have a decent, sharp chef's knife, and you really need one.
- Skillet
Buy at least 1 good skillet. This cast iron pan is so versatile and you can really cook anything in it. And no: putting a skillet on the bbq is not a disgrace. It is super cool!
-
A syringe and a plant sprayer are also always handy if you want to go low and slow
- A grill brush
An absolute must have! Preferably the version as in the picture; especially and after, brush the grate well, and then oil the grate, and done!
- If you really want to step up, a vacuum machine is always very handy. To brine, marinate, or just to keep raw meat a bit longer, or to put leftovers in. Costs little and you will use it very often
Voila, if you have this at home, you are fully armed for a new BBQ season!
